The International Planned Parenthood Federation and a number of other organisations have launched a campaign about the global funding gap for contraceptives. The NGOs want the international community to focus on contraception as one of the main targets of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Access to contraceptives is crucial for the future and development of women and communities worldwide. If the unmet need for contraception were met, it would contribute considerably to their health and wellbeing as well as their families. Access to modern contraceptives leads to more gender equality, better schooling and economic development for women.
Projections show that by 2020, 490 million women will be using modern methods of contraception in more than 130 developing countries. If the funding gap is not closed, the needs and rights of these women will not be met, nor will the SGD on contraception be achieved.

In this petition the NGOs call UN Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon and other world leaders to tackle the contraception crisis.
