On November 10th, Be-cause Health, the Belgian platform for international health, will organize a seminar on stigma and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).

Taboo & stigma
Many themes of sexual and reproductive health and rights are taboo, both in developed and developing countries. This often leads to poorer access to health services and worsening mental and physical health. For instance, in countries where abortion is prohibited, many girls and young women die in the hands of abortion providers who are not medically skilled.
Comprehensive approach
In addition to abortion, national and international presenters will discuss themes such as infertility, transgender identity, homosexuality, HIV and sexuality in adolescents. They will focus on the influence of stigma on the health and rights of these populations and explore short-term and long-term solutions. The conference aims to raise awareness of the extent of these issues and the need for a comprehensive approach amongst all stakeholders of the Belgian development cooperation.
Practicalities
The conference is free and will be held on Thursday 10 November from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. at the Belgian Development Cooperation in the Hoogstraat 147 in Brussel. More info and registration.
