Sensoa analysed the attention for SRHR in the election programmes of the Belgian political parties in view of the 2019 Belgian federal and regional elections. In the run up to the elections, Sensoa International held talks with representatives of several political parties arguing why SRHR is key to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in 2030.
The elections saw a resurgence of the far-right Vlaams Belang in Flanders, as well as gains for the far-left PTB/PVDA and the green party, with the traditional parties losing seats in both regions. In the aftermatch of the elections, on 30 May, King Philippe appointed Johan Vande Lanotte (Flemish socialisty party) and Didier Reynders (Francophone liberals), two experienced politicians with a long period of service, as ‘informateurs’.
